CSR & Social Impact

What is CSR?

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a business approach that ensures companies actively contribute to sustainable development by delivering economic, social, and environmental benefits to all stakeholders. In the Philippines, CSR is not just a corporate obligation it is deeply intertwined with cultural values such as Bayanihan (community support), Malasakit (compassion), and Pakikipagkapwa (social connection).

More than a charitable effort, CSR fosters long-term value creation by strengthening communities, building brand trust, and ensuring a positive impact on employees and customers.

Singapore Delegation | Californian Citie

Asia City Exchange | Singapore + Californian Cities
(2017, 2019)

In collaboration with Dr. Paul Cheung of the National University of Singapore and Thomas Pramotedham, then CEO of Esri Singapore, we spearheaded a Singaporean delegation of government subject matter experts/practitioners to engage with the city mayoral offices of Los Angeles, San Diego, and Chula Vista in 2017. The result was an exchange of ideas and best practices in public policy in the areas of smart cities, multi-mode transportation, and harnessing "big data" in the public sector. These city exchanges were the first of its kind between Singapore and Californian cities.

Chula Vista Redistricting 2014-2015

Redistricting Campaign | City of Chula Vista
(2014- 2015)

I spearheaded a year long nonpartisan outreach and civic education campaign on a city wide level, the Chula Vista Redistricting Campaign, which lead to historic success in the creation of new electoral council districts in the second largest city of San Diego County, the City of Chula Vista. The campaign lead to increased grassroots civic participation from historically marginalized communities while harnessing geographic information system (GIS) data, U.S. Census decennial 2010 data, and grassroots testimonies towards evidence based policy advocacy and organizing.

CSR as a Return on Investment (ROI)

Beyond financial gains, CSR delivers multi-faceted returns that resonate with Filipino business and cultural values:

  • Social ROI: Strengthens local communities through education, healthcare, and livelihood programs.

  • Customer Loyalty & Brand Trust: Consumers, especially in the Philippines, prefer brands that demonstrate real commitment to positive social impact.

  • Employee Engagement: CSR initiatives improve employee morale, retention, and productivity, aligning with the Filipino value of Pakikisama (team spirit).

  • Regulatory & Market Benefits: Companies engaged in CSR build stronger government relationships and gain competitive advantages in procurement and partnerships.
